travel blog

i'm rather impressed with realtravel.com in terms of a place to keep a travel blog. in particular, i really like how the site is integrated with flickr for photo sharing. in fact, that is probably my favourite thing about it. especially how it will grab pictures based on tags. i still can't get over how great tags are for organizing photos. even for the little stream of flickr photos i have on this here blog, they are displayed based on tags of course! it's so handy.

going to pick up a print

today i went to the distillery district with a friend of mine who had to pick up a print at pikto. we checked out some of the galleries and shops, and i think my favourite was wildhagen wear, lovely lovely hats. and i'm definitely going to have to go back to soma chocolate for a hot chocolate shot once i'm done doing my detox.

the concept behind riya is pretty cool, it recognizes faces and things!

Tom's of Maine was bought by Colgate. Good to keep on top of these things and not think you're supporting a little guy by buying so called natural personal care items.

well if macs can run windows, i have a feeling my next computer will take me back to the mac!

tulips on queen

saturday afternoon the weather was beautiful. people were out in droves in kensington and on queen street. spring is definitely in the air, and i can't wait for summer to be here!

synchroneity

a couple of months ago, my coworker merike was talking about the synchroneity that tends to be present when new things are discovered. it's like if you find out about something new, all of a sudden you will see it or hear it everywhere.

case in point, a couple of days ago, andrew showed me this vancouver photo with a fake tilt-shift effect, which is the first time i'd ever heard of it. next, while browsing some of my favourite toronto photoblogs, i come accross a number of examples and even better, an explanation about it and a link on how to do it the photoshop way.

these tea sticks are brilliant! i totally need one.

spree

for my birthday i was a given a copy of the ReadyMade How To Make {Almost} Everything A Do-It-Yourself Primer, and decided that the FedEx cd rack looked really cool and so i am going to make it. in fact, it reminded me of FedEx Furniture, and i was inspired to make a coffee table and stool. a week later the coffee table is in great form but the stool design needs to be reassessed.

new starts

it's interesting browsing the list at d-x of where people have moved to, and seeing how when faced with a setback, some people just pick up and start using something else without skipping a beat. i still haven't found anything to use, and i am rather frustrated. i like to think of myself as a fairly adaptable person, but in this case it just doesn't seem like i am interested or willing to adapt to something else. maybe it's because i've actually already used most of the other services, like livejournal, wordpress, blogger, etc., and there's a reason i stuck with d-x for all the years that i did. if i knew perl and anything about databases and site architecture, i would sit down and write my own journal hosting site. i've actually toyed with the idea of learning perl just to do that, but that seems a little extreme. not that being extreme is a bad thing...

it's sooooo cold in my apartment. brr.
